Joseph Campbell said some beautiful things.
One I often reference, wholeheartedly connected to the deepest spirit of T. S. Eliot’s seminal poem: “The Wasteland,” is:
Campbell said that this: is a challenge every human being faces:
Is life going to eat you up in a mechanistic process of adhering to an insecure system, or are you going to use the same energies in directions that are lifewards?
That’s a seminal challenge to all individuals in every age of man.
And, irrevocably, it leads to the evolutionary question:
‘Are you aligned with virtue or insecurity?’
That’s a binary question.
Profit from the healing it gifts is the province of the sharp mind (but not the mind that is too clever for it’s own good).
