Mathematics is vast.
The roots of the word itself are from Ancient Greek. It means:
from Greek mathēmatikē (tekhnē), from the base of manthanein ‘to learn’.
Tekhne, or techne, is derived from the Greek term technê, meaning art, craft, technique, or skill.
Man’s understanding of math has expanded over time. For example: Number theory looks at the patterns in numbers and it has grown a lot as a field since its inception in antiquity. Pure mathematics studies those patterns among other things.
Applied mathematics is the realm of technology.
The word technology comes from two Greek words, transliterated techne and logos.
Again ‘Techne’ means art, skill, craft, or the way, manner,
the means by which a thing is gained.
Logos means word, the utterance by which inward thought is expressed, a saying, or an expression.
Literally, ‘technology,’ means: words or discourse about the way things are gained.
