The Teacher Student connection

The seat of our modern cultures is primarily the Ancient Greek and the Indian (which influenced the whole Orient) and ancient rhythms from indigenous cultures across the globe.

But every single one of those cultures – all of them – they prize the teacher student relationship.

We all have many teachers in our lives. I have been fortunate to have some truly extraordinary ones. One was Mr TKV Desikachar. He was a gifted engineer and a man who knew the yoga sutras at a very profound level. He was also the best yoga therapist on the planet in the last 50 years.

He once came to me in a dream when I lived in India and he said:

“Expectations of others will get you nowhere. But you must have extremely high expectations of yourself.”

He was a wise man in many ways. He saw into the nature of nature in a way that was very subtle and refined. Such as only the blending of the best of the Indian and the Greek could sponsor.
